I-539, Application To Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status

This form is for a nonimmigrant to apply for an extension of stay or change to another nonimmigrant status; also for a nonimmigration F-1 or M-1 student to apply for reinstatement.

If you using the Form I-539 to file for a B-1 or B-2 extension of stay, you should file at the INS Service Center with jurisdiction over your place of residence, NOT the district office as the form instructs.
